Mark a new 4.8 km cargo apron and taxiway at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) to ICAO Annex 14 standards, with night-cure windows of just 4 hours and the requirement that cargo operations resume each morning without delay. Reflectivity had to meet Q3 wet spec for low-visibility operations.
The Challenge
Mark a new 4.8 km cargo apron and taxiway at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) to ICAO Annex 14 standards, with night-cure windows of just 4 hours and the requirement that cargo operations resume each morning without delay. Reflectivity had to meet Q3 wet spec for low-visibility operations.
Our Solution
Specified Type III MMA cold plastic with Type II glass beads and preformed MMA hold-position markings. MMA was selected for its 30-minute cure at 25°C ambient, allowing the full apron to be marked in sequential NOTAM windows without affecting daytime freighter schedules.
Execution
Airside crews surveyed geometry to Annex 14, water-blasted and dried the asphalt, then extruded MMA taxiway centrelines, apron stand numbers, hold positions and edge markings. A total of 4.8 km of taxiway centreline plus 14 cargo stands were marked across 22 night-shift NOTAMs.
